Right-to-left and reverse-binding books (Arabic, Hebrew, manga)
For Arabic, Hebrew, or manga, set the language and reading direction so pages bind and turn correctly. Here's how to handle RTL and reverse binding.

Books in right-to-left (RTL) languages — Arabic, Hebrew, Farsi — and reverse-binding formats like manga need the correct reading direction so pages turn the right way.
What to set
- Language metadata must match the book's language so stores and apps apply RTL automatically.
- Reading/page-progression direction should be right-to-left for RTL text and reverse-bound books.
- Embed the right fonts for the script — see font errors.
Best path
Build the EPUB with the correct language and direction set from the start. If you are converting from a document, make sure the source is genuinely RTL (not LTR text forced visually), then verify in the preview that pages turn correctly.
Manga / comics
Reverse-binding comics are usually fixed-layout — see which stores accept fixed-layout EPUBs — and need image quality and page order checked carefully.
