Which stores accept fixed-layout EPUBs (children's books, comics)?

Fixed-layout EPUBs (picture books, comics, cookbooks) are supported by some stores but not all. Here's what to know before you publish one.

Fixed-layout EPUBs keep an exact page design — used for children's picture books, comics, photo books, and heavily designed cookbooks. They are handled differently from standard reflowable ebooks.

What to know

  • Not every store accepts fixed-layout, and support varies by retailer. Reflowable text (normal novels and non-fiction) is accepted everywhere.
  • Fixed-layout files are larger and must be built carefully — page sizes, embedded images, and fonts all matter.
  • Covers and metadata follow the same rules as any book. See cover image requirements.

Before you publish

  1. Make sure your EPUB is genuinely fixed-layout and validates — see EPUB validation.
  2. Expect to distribute to the subset of stores that support the format.
  3. If your book is mostly text, use reflowable instead — it reaches more stores and reads better on small screens.

If you are unsure whether your book should be fixed-layout, open a ticket and describe it — we will advise.
