What are territory rights and how do I set them?
Territory rights control which countries your book can be sold in. Set worldwide for maximum reach, or restrict to specific countries you hold rights for.

Territory rights tell the stores which countries are allowed to sell your book. Setting them correctly keeps you compliant with any rights you have licensed away.
Worldwide vs specific countries
- Worldwide is the right choice for most self-published authors — your book can sell anywhere Chiify's stores operate.
- Specific countries matter if you have sold rights for a region (for example, a print deal in one country, or a translation licensed elsewhere). In that case, include only the territories you still control.
How to set them
Open your book's distribution settings and choose either worldwide rights or a custom list of included countries. You can adjust this later; changes are re-delivered to the stores.
How this differs from store selection
- Store selection = which retailers carry the book (Amazon, Apple, Kobo…). See choose your stores.
- Territory rights = which countries may buy it.
The two work together: a book can be on every store but restricted to a few countries, or worldwide on just one store.
If you are unsure
If you have never licensed your rights to anyone, choose worldwide — it maximises your reach and earnings.
