Do I need to prove I own the rights to my book?

Usually your declaration is enough, but Chiify may ask for proof for flagged titles. Keep your manuscript files, copyright page, and any contracts. Here's why.

For most books, your declaration of ownership at upload is enough. But Chiify may ask for proof of rights if a title is flagged — for example a suspected duplicate, a public domain edition, or a possible infringement.

What counts as proof

  • Your original manuscript files and drafts (showing authorship history).
  • A copyright page with your name and year — see what is a copyright page.
  • Contracts or licences if you publish work you commissioned or co-own.
  • For translations, the rights to the source text.

Why we ask

Retailers hold distributors responsible for infringing content. Verifying rights on flagged titles protects you, Chiify, and every honest author on the platform.

Keep good records

Save your source files and any agreements somewhere safe. If we ever request proof, you will be able to respond quickly and get back to publishing. See accepted and restricted content.
