We Lied in the Dark

Three siblings. One lake house. One death they've all agreed to remember differently. Twenty years ago, their father drowned off the family dock. The Vances said it was an accident and never spoke of it again. Now their mother is dead, and Ruth, Caleb and June have come home to scatter her ashes. Within a day they are lying to each other about the same weekend. Within two, a neighbour's body washes up at the dock. June records everything. Ruth defends everyone. Caleb remembers nothing — or says he doesn't. Then June plays back her tape and hears a voice that shouldn't be on it. A voice from the boathouse. A voice that died six months ago. Every family buries something. The Vances buried more than a body.
