Marguerite Caldton gentles horses for a living, and she learned the hard way to keep a soft loop in the lead rope and her heart on the far side of the fence. She comes to Sabino Draw Ranch to start a wrecked blue roan mare that no one else can touch, one season of work, and then gone before the first frost. She does not plan on Finnian and Valerio, the two men who run the place and have run it side by side, as partners in every sense, for nine years.
