The Widow's Reluctant Guardian

Eight years ago Nora Katsaros left Theo Vance in a hotel corridor and never told him why. Now she's a widow twice over, running a sheep farm on a Wicklow hillside, and someone has left a dead lamb on her doorstep with a photograph of her daughter folded inside it. Theo comes back because her brother called him. She lets him sleep in the barn. For six weeks he fixes gates, learns the meaning of a stubborn ewe, and doesn't ask her for a single thing. Her daughter adores him. That's the worst part. The man doing this isn't a monster. He's her late husband's cousin, and he thinks the farm was promised to him. And the question Nora has been carrying for eight years — was Theo part of it, back then — finally has an answer. It's not the answer she expected. It's the one she'll have to live with.
