The Widowed Capo

Camille Duret performed the autopsy on the capo's wife and concluded it was her heart. Enzo Vitale has spent three months being told he is wrong. When he asks Camille to appear at his side at a series of public evenings — nothing more, nothing less, just the appearance of a man who has moved on — she says no. She changes her answer the week the letters start arriving at her home, written in a hand that looks exactly like her own. Enzo can find whoever wrote them. In exchange, Camille will attend galas, dinners, and one christening in a black dress and a borrowed ring, and she will keep her mouth closed about the second autopsy she has begun conducting in her own kitchen. Someone dosed the capo's wife for a year. The question is not whether Camille can prove it. It's what Enzo will give up to keep her name out of it.
