The Watcher in the Stacks

Vera Lindqvist took the night shift cataloguing a private collection because it was quiet, remote, and no one in this town knows her name. On her fourth shift she finds a bookmark in a 1911 atlas written in her own handwriting. On her tenth, someone has moved a chair to face the corner where she works. Ambrose Wray, the collector, is charming, generous, and always away when she arrives. He is never away. Vera stops being afraid long enough to be careful — a camera, a logbook, a plan that would survive a courtroom. Because she has figured out what happened to the woman who had this job before her, and she is not going to be the next entry in the ledger.
