The Surgeon She Saved

Ana Quintero has flown a hundred medevac runs and she knows what a man looks like at the edge. The colonel in the burning Humvee was exactly at the edge, and she walked him back anyway. He wakes with four days missing and a signed order in his file that got two of his soldiers killed. The Army wants him quietly retired. The families want a name. The name on the paper isn't his. Ana goes back down the route for the notebook, and what they find in it puts a general in a hearing room. Going outside the chain means she loses her flight status. She goes anyway. Somebody has to fly him home.
