The Surgeon of Smoke

Every August, Dr. Yvonne Traoré watches the drowned come back to her urgent care for one more appointment. This year the ghost of Dr. Léonie Broussard walks in with a locket, an 1878 case file, and a diagnosis: the dead of New Orleans are being poisoned. Someone is pouring counterfeit tincture into the canals to bind the dead to a shipping cartel, and the only cure is a physician who still breathes. Yvonne and Léonie have sixty years of medicine between them and one Mardi Gras to stop it. The storms come. The clinic floods upward. The dead wait in line. And somewhere between the autopsy table and the canal, Yvonne falls for a woman who cannot stay. A tender, smoky urban paranormal doctor romance that opens a back room you will not want to leave.
