The Song of the Hawk

Nine years ago Marcus Reyes left Serena Ruiz at the Phoenix courthouse and never explained why. Now there's a cartel watch list with her phone number on it, a federal case with a dead boy's name on it, and Marcus Reyes standing in her clinic doorway with a Hawk Security badge he isn't going to keep. Serena doesn't need a bodyguard. She needs her client to live. She does not need the man who left her, no matter how good he looks in a Kevlar vest, no matter how many rounds he takes that were meant for her. Marcus knows he can't earn her back. He can only do the work: take the hit, tell the truth to his own board, and put his badge on her desk. Hawk Security doesn't hire men who grovel. They hire men who stop lying.
