The Orphan of Bainbridge Island

A coat comes up in a ferry dredge with a key stitched into the lining. Detective Ruth Ahn expects a runaway. What she finds is a storage unit full of other people's childhoods — and one box with her own birth name on it. Ruth was adopted off Bainbridge Island at four and has not been back since. Now a housekeeper is dead, a mute boy keeps drawing the pier, and every file she opens leads back to the children's home that split families for the state and got paid to do it. Somebody on this island has been tidying up for thirty years. He knows which planks are missing. He knows where the water is deepest. A Bainbridge Island mystery and an absolutely unputdownable psychological thriller.
