The Immortal Biker

Junie Alvarez joined the Sump Riders because they needed a treasurer and she needed health insurance. She does not believe in the founding story. The founding story is that the club's first president rode out of a fire in 1931 and never died. Then the first president gets shot on a run to Fresno, and Junie is the one who gets him off the highway and into her grandmother's kitchen, and the one who finds out that he is not a legend, he is a man with a bullet in him who has not eaten in a week. Ruin has kept the club alive for ninety years by paying its taxes on time. He is not going to survive the next six weeks, when a rival club comes for the ledger that holds the whole history of everything. Junie has a spreadsheet, a bottle of bourbon, and no intention of losing to men who have never filed a return. She is not a hero. She is an accountant. That might be worse for everyone involved.
