A Cozy Progression Fantasy
by Cedric Kirkbride
Lydia has no rank. In Solara, where the System hangs a glowing blue box over every head and grades every healer from Bronze upward, that makes her nothing: a hedge-healer in the Lower Quarter with a satchel of yarrow, a pot of honey and a cramped clinic the Administrators would rather forget.
But the patients the Ranked healers give up on keep ending up at her door. A farmer told to make his peace. An orphan girl found burning with fever behind the tannery, who wakes up hungry and refuses to leave. And one rainy morning the clinic cat, Mittens, opens his mouth and complains that they are out of cream.
Then a noble house knocks on her door, a golden light wakes beneath her ribs, and a tunnel under the city leads to the heart of the System itself. When the sky over Solara cracks and people's ranks begin to vanish, the Unranked of the Lower Quarter look to the one healer the System never counted.
A cozy progression fantasy about found family, honest work, and the kind of power that makes a place safer.
