The Capo's Quiet House

Priya Kanwar answers the emergency line in Newark. She has spent four years being the voice on the other end of other people's worst nights. Anton Vasiliev has called the line twice. Once to report a car fire he didn't set. Once to report one he did. Neither of them knew each other's faces until he carried her down eleven flights of stairs. Four years ago, in her first month, Priya took a call from a warehouse in Newark and wrote the address down wrong. That call was his brother. He died before anyone got there. They find out on the same night, in the same hospital corridor. She tells him the truth straight away, and offers him her badge, her resignation, and her address. He goes quiet for eleven days. A capo age gap bratva secret baby romance about a mistake, an inheritance, and two people who don't sleep well.
