The Cabin in the Chestnut Woods

Lena Marsh bought a farmhouse and a chestnut grove at auction four years ago. She has repaired it with her own hands and money she still doesn't have. Then Caleb Bright arrives in October to say the deed was wrong, the land is partly his, and the grove belongs to his mother — who is dead. A judge tells them to share the property until the harvest is in. One house. One woodstove. A stand of trees that survived a century of blight. He has never lived anywhere that didn't come with staff. She has never let anyone carry a log for her. Between them: a silent kitchen, a legal filing, and a season that keeps getting colder. Some property disputes end in court. Some end with someone staying.
