The Buried Lieutenant

Marisol Vuković has interpreted for monsters without changing expression for eleven years. Then a new file lands on her desk and she reads a name she has spent three decades not saying out loud. Her old colonel. The man who handed her a sealed envelope in 1996 and told her to destroy it. She didn't. The witness list includes Tommaso Genovese, who ran the port of Genoa for his family and who spent eight months on the same deployment pretending not to remember her. He has orders he burned. She has photographs he never saw. Neither of them has told a single true sentence about that year. The Hague is about to make them.
