The Brother She Buried

Nell Corrigan swore she would never come back to the farmhouse. Twelve years after her stepbrother Jamie drowned in the quarry, she inherits it, and takes one weekend to sell it. Jamie is in the kitchen. He is thirty, limping, and still seventeen in his head, and he thinks it's the summer he fell. Nell should call someone. She unpacks instead. The phone has no dial tone. The car starts fine and then it doesn't. Somewhere in her stepfather's papers is a word that explains the whole family, and Nell is not going to find it, because finding it means knowing what she was supposed to be. Jamie is warm, and alive, and hers, and she has already decided she would rather be wrong about this than careful. A dark gothic stepbrother romance of two people who should not have come home.
