The Bookkeeper She Buried

Two years ago Rue Delacroix took twenty thousand dollars out of the Iron Vespers' widows' fund, faked a wreck on Route 6, and became someone else in a town called Argent. She has been a paralegal ever since. She has not touched a motorcycle. She has been good. Then a letter arrives at her office with a photograph of a ledger page and one line: the club knows. The man who sent it is Kell Hargrove, the Vespers' new enforcer, and he has orders to bring her back to answer for the money. He says he hates her, on the drive. He says it twice. What Kell doesn't say is that he's the one who found the shortfall in the first place. That he's been paying it out of his own pocket for two years to keep the club from hunting her harder. That the reason he finally sent the letter is that the president has started liquidating members to cover the gap, and Rue is the only person alive who can move that money quietly enough to stop him.
