The Alien King She Ruined

Nell Whitcombe has one post, six pounds a year, and the dignity she has spent twenty-seven years protecting. She does not have any business being housekeeper to a foreign gentleman who owns a house that has been closed for forty years and a wine cellar that hums. Ilarion is an exiled king, hiding in an English county until a court that voted him out changes its mind. He overpays the gardener. He weeps at the piano. He cannot lie to a vicar to save his life. Nell teaches him how to pass as an ordinary man. The county teaches her what it does to a lady's maid invited to dance with a foreign gentleman. And when his crown comes back, he offers her a throne — which she refuses, because she has never once in her life wanted to be owned. A steamy rags-to-romance alien romance about a king who abdicates twice and a housekeeper who never once curtseys to him at home.
