Ridden Down by the Earl

Marianne Ashby left Bath to escape a marriage she could not want. She changed coaches twice. She told no one her route. And yet, at every inn, her room is already paid for. At every meal, the table beside her is cleared and re-set. When she reaches her aunt's farm in Yorkshire, there is a strange horse in the stable, and the Earl of Hallam is at the door with the best manners in England and the patience of a man who does not lose. Edmund Carew has followed Marianne for six hundred miles without speaking a word to her. He has bought her neighbour's land. He knows her friends' names. He is not going to stop. Marianne is not going to run. She is going to write her own terms.
