Rake by the Fireside

Kit Marchetti owns the lodge on the lake. He goes there once a year to be alone with the worst night of his life. This year someone is already inside. Rue Deveraux is an insurance investigator with a ten-year-old file and a question no one has ever asked him aloud. Then the nor'easter comes early, the road floods, and there's one woodstove between them. Five days. Two people. One missing page. He's been paying for an accident that wasn't his. She's about to find out who it was. And somewhere between the bourbon and the snow, the truth stops being the only thing keeping them in the same room. Some fires you inherit. Some you walk away from.
