No Witness, No Grave

The boat fire killed twelve people. I was the thirteenth, pulled half-dead out of the Baltic with my husband's jacket in my hand. Eight months later, I am pregnant, and the father is not the man I buried. The father is Rune Ahlgren, the security contractor who was paid to protect the wedding party and left me a note I never answered. He has spent every day since the fire collecting harbor logs and insurance filings in a folder he keeps in a safe I am not supposed to know about. He believes my husband's business partner paid the crew to burn the manifest with the guests. He believes the pregnancy, if it becomes public, will get me killed. So he has taken me to a fishing cabin on the Bohuslän coast and we are going to spend the winter proving it. In March, Hallberg comes for me. Rune meets him on the dock. In April I hold my son.
