No Ring, No Ransom

Tessa Rao dives wrecks for a living and does not ask what's inside them. She surfaces from a freighter off the Hudson into the gun of Luca Brandisi, a capo whose brother owned the wreck and has been missing for six days. The deal is simple: she dives, he watches, nobody talks about the container that isn't on the manifest. Then the tracking unit inside that container starts broadcasting to whoever killed him. Eight weeks in a shuttered Brooklyn shipyard, night dives, one wheelhouse, one bed, and a signal leading down the coast toward the one man Luca has been told his whole life he can trust. Tessa found the truth at the bottom of the river. She intends to bring it up on her own terms — with a knife between her teeth and a contract ready.
