Mirrors and Rain Barrels
A Horror Mystery Bainbridge Island Mystery
by Sabine Ardel
Fourteen mirrors. Fourteen drownings. One rain barrel that isn't in the room.
Museum registrar Hattie Lund is hired to appraise a closet of mirrors from a Bainbridge Island farmhouse, all re-silvered by the same island workshop between 1918 and 1932.
In every mirror, behind the person looking, there is a rain barrel. There are no rain barrels in the house — they were removed in 1970.
The workshop's ledger matches fourteen drownings to fourteen re-silvering dates. The last surviving partner is ninety-four, in memory care, and says only one thing when Hattie asks: we didn't make them to be looked at.
A horror mystery for readers who know haunted things can be filed correctly.
