Joyce Meyer Biography

Joyce Meyer was born in 1943 in south St. Louis, Missouri. Before she could even understand the world, the world had already turned against her. Her father abused her for years. Her mother saw it and said nothing. She grew up angry, broken, and convinced she was worthless.

She married young to escape, but that marriage fell apart too. Her husband cheated. He manipulated her. She ended up divorced and spending nights in bars, trying to numb the pain. She had no direction. No hope. No reason to believe life would ever get better.

But the road was never smooth. She battled breast cancer. She faced a Senate investigation into her ministry's finances. She was criticized for preaching the prosperity gospel and later admitted that things had gotten out of balance.
