Her Grim Bargain

Lark Adderly sold the farm, moved to New Orleans, and took the first job that would have her. By the end of her first month, three men had found her: Auguste, who walks her home but will not ask for more; Marchand, who sends flowers she never ordered; Bishop, who lives below her and keeps her hours. They all work for the old society her grandmother belonged to, and they all want something Lark did not know she had — the name of a founding house, and the last one left to carry it. She did not come to New Orleans to be protected. She came to be alone. But someone has been writing to her in her grandmother's handwriting, and the facts in the letters were never written down. Lark will take the Lodge's protection. She will take their room and their rules and their three men. And on All Souls' Night she is going to open the door herself.
