FULL THROTTLE

The Untold Story of Susie Wolff and the Fight to Change Formula One

In 2014, Susie Wolff climbed into a Formula 1 car at Silverstone and did something no woman had done in twenty-two years: she raced. But the headline moment was never the real story.

Full Throttle traces the complete arc of Wolff's career, from a karting track outside a small Scottish coastal town, through seven grinding seasons in Germany's DTM championship, to the Williams garage where she quietly earned, rather than was handed, her place in an F1 cockpit. It's also the story of what she did after the driving stopped: walking away from the only identity she'd known since childhood, and spending the next decade building the institutions, Dare to Be Different, FIA Girls on Track, and finally F1 Academy, designed to make sure the next woman wouldn't have to wait another twenty-two years.

Drawing on public records, race statistics, and the long, largely forgotten history of the five women who sat in an F1 car before her, this independent biography places Wolff's story inside the wider, uneven history of women in motorsport, from Maria Teresa de Filippis's 1958 debut to the commercial collapse of W Series in 2022. It's a book about talent, certainly. But it's just as much a book about infrastructure: how doors actually open in industries built to keep them shut, and what it costs, over twenty years, to hold one open long enough for someone else to walk through.
