Claimed by the Wolf Marshal

Lyra Osgood has wanted one thing since she was twelve: a place on the Academy's Elite, the unit the lycan court sends into hard country. The Academy decides who's qualified. The Wolf Marshal decides who takes the post. So when Marshal Dain Rhoswen names Lyra as his direct ward for her final year, she assumes it's a punishment. He hasn't taken a student in four years. It's worse than a punishment — he's been watching her since her entry trials because she fights like his dead brother, and he wants to know why. The year is one long knife-edge: a training camp on the north border, a court that keeps a quiet list of problem students, and three other candidates on her roster — Rook, who resents her; Tamsin, who doesn't; and the Marshal, who shouldn't be on any roster at all. The court tries to reassign her to a family that will use her. Lyra signs her name onto the Marshal's roster before he can offer — and rewrites the terms aloud.
