Blood and Olive

Chiara Bruno marries into the family that took her grove, and is shown the trees on her wedding night like they were part of the dowry. Her husband is dying. His nephew runs the estate and wants her gone. But Chiara grew up on soil, and she knows a year of bad pressings when she tastes one. One harvest is all she asks for. She rewrites the contract with the Palermo buyer, gets the family's oil into Milan, and makes an enemy of the nephew who used to sign the checks. Then the press burns at night, and Chiara does not send men. She sends paper. Blood and olive grow from the same ground, and she intends to be the one who decides which.
