Varga

Her grandfather kept his books for forty years. Now a man in a black coat wants them back. Sasha Ivanova has a piano shop, a dead grandfather, and a key that does not fit any lock she owns. What it opens is forty years of coded ledgers — and proof that the man who has been quietly protecting the neighborhood since before she could walk has been killing for it the whole time. Konstantin Varga is fifty-eight, patient, and entirely unwilling to explain himself. He moves her into his house. He puts a man outside her door. He stands in her kitchen at midnight and watches her hands instead of her face. Her grandfather was a witness. So is she. She can keep her mouth shut and her life. Or she can do the thing the old man died with a key in his pocket hoping she would do. The trouble is, she has started wanting the man who would go to prison if she did.
