The Warlord She Deceived

Human conscript sergeant Wren Baker was captured on a border moon and delivered to Warlord Kesh, who needed a consort to hold his alliance together and didn't much care that she was a prisoner. Perfect. Wren has been under deep cover for four years, and a warlord's bed is the best signal position in the sector. She smiles, she stands close, she learns the fleet. Then she meets the families on his new fuel route. She sends two honest reports and then stops sending them. Kesh tells her, in week eight, that his intelligence identified her in week one and that he has been protecting her anyway, which is a worse betrayal than hers. When her own signal surfaces and her navy moves on a route she never disclosed, both of them have to choose what they were pretending and what they were actually doing. The Warlord She Deceived is a sci-fi alien romance with a fake consort, a spy who stops reporting, and a warlord who picks a ceasefire over a war.
