The Warden

Sera Okonkwo escaped a cult at seventeen. She spent fifteen years making sure no one could ever hold her again. Now somebody is trying to kill her, and the only people with the skills and the motive are the three men who guarded the compound she ran from — a doctor who sewed the leader's wounds, a pilot who flew his errands, a gardener who knows exactly what grows there. Sera does the sensible thing. She hires all three of them, drives them to a house in the Mojave, and watches them. She sleeps with each of them. She doesn't apologise for it. When the shooter comes, all three stand between her and the bullet. One of them has already sold her out — and it's not the one she was watching. She was trained to survive. She wasn't trained for this.
