The Shackle and the Sun

Seren Teague wakes up somewhere loud, cold, and moving. There is a man chained against the wall opposite her. He has been there a week. He will not speak. They are being sold within the fortnight, to different buyers, in different countries. Knight has a plan to get out. Seren has a plan to get out. Neither of their plans works without the other, and neither of them trusts the other with anything but the next ten minutes. Eleven days. Two bars, one lock, one broker, and a ledger that will end all of this if they can get it off the boat. On the eleventh night they get out. On the twelfth morning she stands in a police station and tells the entire truth, and asks the officers for one thing: a name for the man beside her, because he has never had one. She picks it herself.
