The Second Wife Watches

Niamh drowned in the pool. Eleven months later, Alexa moved in. She married Tom in a registry office on a wet Tuesday and thought she'd been given a life: a good man, a lovely house, a nine-year-old son who needed her. For a year she was right. Then Ben started saying his mother's things. Ordinary things — a rhyme about a rabbit, a private phrase Niamh used to use. Then came Niamh's clothes in storage, folded in Alexa's sizes, in Alexa's order. Then a shopping list in the kitchen written in Niamh's hand. Tom had an answer for all of it. He always has an answer. Alexa stops asking questions and starts watching. What she sees on the camera she hides in the pool house is something no one would believe: a man, alone, moving a scarf from room to room, and waiting. He isn't grieving. He's measuring. A psychological thriller of family secrets and lies, and a woman who does the one thing her predecessor never could.
