The Reluctant Necromancer

Sanj Rao is a licensed necromancer on a call-handler's salary. Mostly she files paperwork. Occasionally she raises someone. Tonight it's a hospital custodian who's been dead for six hours and won't take the hint. Ash spent eleven years quietly keeping the ward's dead from panicking. Now every corpse in the building is awake, the city's registry wants a name to blame, and a rival necromancer is farming the chaos for a promotion. Sanj has one option: return Ash to the ground before morning. She has one plan: file an appeal. Somewhere between the morgue and a 3 a.m. chapel, with a mop still in his hand, Sanj is going to prove the registry wrong. The dead don't need a hero. They need a good caseworker.
