The Quiet Room

Eleven trials. Eleven losses, one for each of them. Detective Ines Corriveau thinks defense attorney Oyelaran Adeyemi sells reasonable doubt by the hour. Oyelaran thinks Ines builds cases out of her own certainty and calls it evidence. They have said so on the record. Then a January transfer goes off the mountain in a blizzard, and the two of them, one handcuffed witness and a flatbed of evidence end up in a courthouse with no power, no phone, and nine hours before anyone reaches them. Somebody cut the fuel line of the escort van. Somebody is out there in the trees. And the witness in the cuffs is the only testimony that closes a case both of them have given years to. So they take turns sleeping. They take turns keeping him alive. And in the dark, between the second hour and the fourth, they find out that the thing they most hate about each other is the same thing. An enemies to lovers, forced proximity, thriller romance for readers who like a knife and a heartbeat in the same sentence.
