The Old Lady He Called by My Name

Mireya Sandoval kept the Saguaro Skulls' secrets for ten years. She knew which lies were on the books and which were in the chapel. Then she found a burner phone under the kitchen sink with 1,400 texts from her husband to a woman in Tucson. The pet names were the same. The weekend plans were the same. He called the other woman by her name. Mireya didn't break the phone. She backed it up four times and drove to Tucson to tell the other woman herself. Three years later Cruz is patched off, excommunicated, and working at a transmission shop under a fake name. Mireya is a forensic accountant and the Skulls' paid contract treasurer, a woman who walks into the chapel on her own terms. Then Cruz gets sick, and Mireya agrees to be his emergency contact. Not his wife. Not his nurse. Not his second chance. Something new.
