The Merciless Bride

Giulia Montanari has signed her dead father's name on every document that mattered for eleven years. She runs the family shipping office in Genoa, she knows what happened in a warehouse outside Savona in 2009, and she knows who was holding the gun. She is marrying him anyway. Matteo Crucchi runs the Crucchi family's northern interests — concrete, construction, containers — and fourteen years ago he was ordered to stop a man who was selling shipping routes to a Milanese rival. He tried to refuse three times. He didn't succeed. Both of them know exactly what they're doing at the altar. Neither of them says a word about it for four months — not at dinner, not in the office Giulia empties one drawer at a time, not on the night they finally choose each other with one withheld sentence between them. Then a car bomb goes off in the Via XX Settembre and Giulia's driver dies in her place. Matteo has three days to find the men who planted it. Giulia has three days in his files, alone, and she finds the order he tried to refuse.
