About this book

Philippa Radbury reads people the way she reads her indigo vat. Dye goes into the vat green and only strikes blue when it is lifted into the air, and a truth kept under the surface stays green and rinses away to nothing. She spent six years married to Tristan Nethshaw, a man worth billions, and for six years she trusted that what was between them would hold in the light. Then someone told him she had only married him for the land under her family's old works, and he believed it, and he did not once ask her if it was true.

What neither of them knew was that the land was never worthless marsh. Philippa's grandmother had secretly left it to her, along with a trust, in a will that was hidden the day it was signed. A fixer named Ellery Yarland buried the real inheritance, probated a lie, and let Nethshaw's company buy the whole coast for pocket change, so that the resort making Tristan richer every quarter is built on the fortune stolen from his own wife. Ellery needed the marriage dead before anyone started digging. So he handed Tristan a story, and Tristan chose the company, and the appearances, and the woman his people installed at his side, over the wife he was supposed to defend.

When a death finally shakes the hidden will loose and the fraud begins to surface, Philippa does not go looking for Tristan. She goes to work, at the vat, in the open, and she lets the truth strike blue in front of the whole town that watched her fall. The proof is real, the money trail is real, and the people who profited have to answer for it in public.

But being proven right does not make a marriage. Tristan has to reckon with the one thing no reversed verdict can undo: he believed a stranger's lie over his wife, and that was his choice, not Ellery's. He has to earn her back with everything his billions cannot buy, and Philippa has to decide whether a man who read her wrong once can ever be trusted to read her true.
