The House of the Hollow King

Theo has inherited an archivist's post at a house that isn't on any map, across a river that has been dry for a hundred years. The King of the house has been dying slowly for four centuries. He needs a mortal hand to finish his ledger, so that his debts die when he does. What the steward who hired Theo doesn't tell him: the steward is one of the debts. Cael has been bound to the house for two hundred years, has watched three archivists die in the east wing, and is waiting for the fourth. Theo doesn't die. He works. He reads the ledger. He finds names that shouldn't be there, and one of them is his. When he and Cael learn the King's slow death is not natural — that someone in the house is keeping him alive on purpose — Theo has to choose which side of the ledger he's on. A dark MM gothic fantasy about a house, a debt, and a man who wrote a name out of it.
