The Governess Drowned Here

Edith Marchetti takes a post at Wrenmoor Hall to teach two children who have not spoken since their mother drowned. The house is cold in a way fires do not fix. Her room has been prepared for her — the dresses fit, the diary is in her handwriting, and the dates are wrong by ten years. The master, Lucien Wren, warns her away from the west wing and asks, twice, whether she can swim. Edith is not afraid of the house. She is afraid that she has been here before, and that someone has been waiting a very long time for her to come back. A dark gothic romance of inherited rooms, inherited names, and a woman who is not the first of her kind to walk these halls.
