The Glare of the Golden Sun

Mara Okonkwo has two months left on her pilot's licence, a bad hip, and one last salvage contract on a moon nobody wants. She is not supposed to find a Solari war-scribe in the ruin. Khar of the Ash Vessel is enormous, scarred, and has not spoken in two years. He would prefer to keep it that way. When the salvage ship explodes in orbit and strands them together, he gets no say in the matter. Six months. One beacon. A very loud human woman who will not stop talking. Mara is going to get through his silence. But when the rescue comes, it comes with orders: erase the human, or lose everything he is. He was already going to lose everything he is. He just has to decide whether it happens by his hand or hers.
