The Garage of Second Wives

Jo Kessler filed for divorce and lost the house, the dog, and the roadside contract to a man who never put her name on anything. She kept the smaller shop and six years of invoices that prove her ex ran his crew off the books. Cruz Delgado is the mechanic Wade fired in the spring and the only man in town who will touch her bike. He also owes Wade eleven thousand dollars he cannot pay. When Jo's bay door is bent in overnight and her tires are slashed, Cruz starts sleeping on a cot above her garage with a tire iron by his feet. She did not ask him to. He does it anyway. Over six weeks of cold nights and rebuilt engines, neither of them says the word relationship. Then the invoices go to the labor board, Wade's contract is pulled, and Cruz stands in a doorway between Jo and the man she is divorcing — and Jo has to decide whether owing a man is the same as belonging to one.
