The Founder's Favorite Room

Corinne Vaugh is twenty-six and has been given the second-best office in the building. The best one belongs to August Bellamy, who founded the company, lost his oldest friend in the spring, and hasn't taken a meeting since. She's supposed to fix his calendar. Instead she starts leaving notes on his contracts. He writes back in the margins. Six months of paper, two people twenty-eight years apart, and one building full of people who think she's angling for the shares. They're wrong. But his son isn't sure, the board isn't sure, and August himself is no longer sure what he's offering her. When it comes down to a memo read aloud in a boardroom, Corinne has to say what she actually wants — and it isn't the money.
