The Demon Down the Road

The new schoolteacher thinks her neighbor is pointing his telescope at her kitchen. He's looking at Jupiter. Her kitchen is in the way.

Poppy Hart moved to Hemlock Hollow to teach the little ones, drink a lot of tea, and get over a very bad year. She hasn't looked up at the stars since her mother died.

Dov lives in the crooked house across the road. He's very tall, very thin, has a head too big for his body and eyes that glow soft orange in the dark, and he hasn't been seen in daylight since some teenagers screamed at him on a stone wall in 1977.

When her class starts turning up on his porch with questions about Saturn, and she starts turning up with them, the shyest monster in town begins to wonder whether there's something worth coming out into the light for.

The Demon Down the Road is the tender, joyful finale of the Hemlock Hollow series, with neighbors to lovers and a slow-burn stargazing romance, a grieving heroine and the gentlest hero in town, meteor showers, a blizzard rescue, and a walk into the sunlight, every couple from the series together for one last Longest Night, a closed door, and a guaranteed happily-ever-after.
