The Contracted Sentinel

Halston Arms has killed nine people and paid for none of it. Priya Raghunathan intends to change the record. Bishop Hale intends to log her movements, file them daily, and go home at the end of the contract. He takes the job because it has an end date. Then his surveillance logs start missing his own observations, and the woman he is being paid to watch starts making him coffee through the shared wall of a duplex neither of them chose. When Bishop finds out what his own partner has been selling, the contract becomes something else entirely. He resigns in a parked car. He testifies against the firm that built him. And he walks into a courtroom where the only thing he has left to offer is his name on a sworn statement. Priya wins her case. It costs him everything he was, which is the first honest exchange he's ever made.
