The Cold Case She Opened

In 2006, PC Vic Nolan was first on scene at the murder of a teenage girl in a county park. She has no memory of the eleven hours that followed. Her statement was taken by her own sergeant and sealed by her own force. For twenty years nobody has asked her about it. Now a cold case review wants her evidence. Vic opens her own file at 2 a.m. in her kitchen and finds the one thing a police officer can never explain: her earring, in the evidence bag, unlogged, from the night she cannot remember. She has spent eighteen years solving other people's cases. The park has been in her rearview mirror the whole time, and she has never once let herself look at it. If she looks now, she will have to remember. And if she remembers, the man she needs to arrest is the man who trained her.
