The Clinic at the End of the Road

Dr. Emmett Graves is sixty-one, retired, and mostly fine. Then a dead colleague he can't quite remember leaves him a clinic at the end of a county road: one nurse-practitioner, one very old dog at the front desk, and a resident physician named Halloway, who has beautiful hands, remarkable eyes, and no intention of explaining what he is. Halloway has been holding this valley together since 1902. The townspeople live into their nineties, nobody ever moves away, and the charts go back further than any of them should. Emmett came in to finish two years of directorship and go home. Now he's pulling night shifts, arguing about statins, and watching a man run out of whatever a monster runs on. The Clinic at the End of the Road is a monster bait MM doctor romance about the practice of medicine, the arithmetic of a long life, and the very specific happiness of coming to work for the rest of it.
